The Mahindra Thar.e concept recently had its global premiere at the company’s annual event in South Africa, providing an in-depth look at its exterior. Now, the company has unveiled a sneak peek of its futuristic interior through an official video. Upon inspection, the dashboard stands out with its flat design, integrating a touchscreen display. The long center console features a distinctive gear lever and terrain-based drive mode controls.

A notable highlight of the lifestyle off-road electric SUV is the multi-function, three-spoke steering wheel with a flat top and bottom. Mounted controls and the ‘Thar.e’ logo in the center enhance the appeal. Bucket seats with a squarish pattern and sturdy grab handles define the interior, complemented by sporadic red accents that contribute to its sporty appearance.

Unlike the ICE-powered Thar, which utilizes a ladder-frame chassis, the electric version of the SUV is built on Mahindra’s modified INGLO-P1 dedicated EV platform. This skateboard architecture will also be employed in Mahindra’s future electric SUVs. It is designed to be modular and adaptable to various wheelbase lengths and heights. The Mahindra Thar electric SUV is expected to feature an extended wheelbase, ranging between 2775mm to 2975mm, compared to its conventional counterpart. Initially, Mahindra plans to source batteries and motors for its INGLO-based electric SUVs, including the XUV.e8, from BYD. However, the Thar.e will be equipped with a more powerful electric powertrain supplied by Volkswagen. While the battery will be shared across all INGLO SUVs (likely around 60kWh), Mahindra has confirmed that a larger 80kWh battery pack will enable a range of approximately 435km to 450km under the WLTP cycle.
