Mahindra Defence To Build Armoured Tactical Vehicles For Indian Army

Mahindra Defence Systems Limited has announced that it received an order for 1300 Armored Light Specialist Vehicles (ALSV) from the Ministry of Defence. Under the new contract that worth Rs 1,056 crore, the brand’s armoured tactical vehicles will be used by the Indian Army for their weapon carrier requirements and reconnaissance purposes. Mahindra’s new Armoured Light Specialist Vehicles can be upgraded or configured in the field for a wide variety of operational rules. Sporting modular design, these vehicles provide protected mobility for the front, side and rear as per STANAG Level I Ballistics and Blast for four crewmembers. The ALSVs also offer ample storage space for arms and ammunition side the crew compartment along with the 400kgs cargo loading capacity. These can also be upgraded up to STANAG – II Ballistics.

Mahindra Light Specialist Vehicle For Army

Powering the Mahindra Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle is a 3.2L, 6-cylinder, turbocharged in-line multi-fuel diesel engine paired to a 4-speed automatic gearbox and 4X4 drivetrain system. The motor pushes out a peak power of 215bhp at 3,600rpm and 500Nm at 2,000rpm. It can attain a top speed of 120kmph and accelerate 0 to 60kmph in 12 seconds. The ALSVs come with 30 degree gradability with parking brake holding capacity in full GVW and 50kms run-flat system on all five wheels.  It suspension system includes high travel all-wheel independent units with central type inflation system. For performing braking duties, the ALSVs have heavy duty brakes on all four wheels. These have been assembled with 17-inch 18/80 R17 front and rear tyres.

Mahindra’s ALSVs are available in multiple variants including 6 to 8-seater – Armored Protection Vehicle for Security; Light Armoured Ambulance; Command and Control Vehicle, Light Mortar 81/82mm Vehicle, Ammunition Carrier for Light Weapons.
