Mahindra Alturas G4 To Be Discontinued – Here’s Why

According to a fresh media report, Mahindra & Mahindra might discontinue its flagship SUV – Alturas G4 – in 2021. The reason behind its removal is said to be the split between the home-grown carmaker and Ssangyong. Mahindra is reported to have enough components and material supply to produce 500 units of the 7-seater SUV. After it, the company will stop assembling the Mahindra Alturas at its Chakan facility. Just so you know, the model comes to India as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit from South Korea.

In April 2020, the carmaker rolled out the Mahindra Alturas G4 with the BS6-compliant 2.2L, 4-cylinder diesel engine. Its power and torque outputs stand at 181bhp and 420Nm respectively. The SUV’s BS6 version is slightly more fuel efficient than its BS4 model. The updated motor promises an ARAI-certified mileage of 12.03kmpl. Transmission duties are done by a 7-speed automatic unit.

Some features are exclusively offered on the top-end trim such as a 360-degree camera, a powered tailgate, a memory function for the driver’s seat, ambient lighting and a sunroof. With respect to safety, the Mahindra Alturas G4 offers dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability program (ESP), traction control, hill-descent control, hill-start assist, and rollover mitigation as standard fitments. The fully-loaded 4WD additionally offers protection of nine airbags.

At present, the SUV’s base model has been priced at Rs 28.72 lakh and the top-end variant costs Rs 31.72 lakh (ex-showroom). The Alturas G4 takes on the cars like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Though, it’s more affordable than both of its arch rivals.
