Skoda Auto India is ready to enter into the mid-size SUV segment with the all-new Vision IN concept based model. The carmaker will unveil the official name of its production model in the first week of January 2021. While the SUV will make its world debut in March, it will hit Indian roads by mid 2021. Speculations are on rife that the new Skoda SUV might be named ‘Kliq’ or ‘Kosmiq’. The Skoda Vision IN SUV will be the first model to roll out under the brand’s 2.0 strategy for India.
The new Skoda SUV will be designed on Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 modular platform. The same architecture will also be used for the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV. It’s a locally-developed platform that’s claimed to combine “an optimum amount of space…the highest degree of versatility and state of the art technologies”.
Engine setup of the Skoda Vision IN SUV will include two turbocharged petrol motors – 1.0L TSI and 1.5L TSI. While the former makes a top power of 110PS with 175Nm of torque, the latter is good enough for 150PS and 250Nm. While the smaller capacity engine is likely to come with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, the bigger capacity motor might come with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
The upcoming Skoda SUV will be packed with lot of goodies include a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a 3-spoke steering wheel, connected car technology, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and many more. With respect to safety, the Vision IN will offer multiple airbags, rear parking sensors and camera, ABS with EBD and more.
The Vision IN concept based SUV will be Skoda’s answer to Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which are currently ruling the segment. Prices of the model are likely to fall in the range of Rs 10 lakh – Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
