Made-In-India Suzuki Grand Vitara Unveiled In South Africa

Maruti Suzuki has recently unveiled the new Grand Vitara SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in September 2022. The SUV is developed and designed by Suzuki using its Global-C platform that also underpins Toyota Hyryder. The Made-in-India Suzuki Grand Vitara has now been showcased to South African public. It will be launched in the first quarter of 2023 in South Africa.

The Grand Vitara will be Suzuki’s flagship model in South Africa and prospective customers can see the SUV at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami from 26-28 August. Similar to the India-spec model, the global Suzuki Grand Vitara will be offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol with Smart Hybrid Tech and a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol with Intelligent Hybrid Tech.

Suzuki Grand Vitara Specs

The 1.5L NA petrol with smart hybrid tech is capable of producing 102bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The mild hybrid version comes with segment-first AWD system with manual gearbox. The AllGrip all-wheel-drive system will offer 4 driving modes – Auto, Sand, Snow and Lock.

The strong hybrid version features Toyota’s 3-cylinder 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson cycle engine coupled to a 177.6V lithium-ion battery. The engine produces 92.45PS of power, while the maximum usable power and torque stands at 115.5PS and 122Nm respectively. This engine comes with Toyota’s e-CVT, which is also offered on the global Yaris Cross hybrid.

The hybrid version is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 27.97kmpl. The standard model offers 21.11kmpl with manual gearbox, while the automatic & manual AWD are claimed to offer 20.58kmpl and 19.38kmpl respectively.

In terms of proportions, the new SUV is 4,345mm long, 1,645mm tall and 1,795mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2,600mm. The India-spec model will come in 6 variants –  Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha with Smart Hybrid Tech, and Zeta+ and Alpha+ with Intelligent Hybrid Engine. Feature list include a panoramic sunroof, a 360 degree camera, wireless phone charging, digital instrument console, 9-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, etc.

For safety & security, the new SUV comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, 360 degree camera, reverse parking camera, rear parking sensors, TPMS, ESP, hill hold assist, hill descent control, etc. Interested buyers can book the new SUV online or at authorised NEXA premium dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000.
