Looking For A New Electric SUV? – 4 New Models Coming In 2024

EV market has been growing in India, and that’s the reason OEMs like Maruti Suzuki, Skoda, VW, VinFast and Tesla are ready to tap the segment with all-new models and their global EVs. Currently, Tata Motors is dominating the EV space with Nexon.ev, Punch.ev, Tiago.ev and Tigor.ev. Mahindra and BYD have a pivotal role in the significant expansion of electric vehicles in the country. In 2024, the Indian EV market is projected to witness a surge by 66 percent. If you are particularity looking for a new electric SUV, four major products from Tata, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra are ready to come your way. Here’s a brief on these upcoming EVs.

Tata Curvv EV/Harrier EV

Tata Curvv EV is slated to go on sale by mid 2024, while the Harrier EV will arrive during this year’s festive season. Both electric SUV models will be based on Tata’s Gen 2 – Activ.ev platform. Powertrain details are still under the wraps. Though, the Curvv EV is likely to deliver a range of around 450km – 500km on a single charge. The coupe SUV will also be offered with the all-new 125bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol and Nexon’s 1.5L diesel engine along with a CNG fuel option. The Tata Curvv EV will have a dual screen setup for instrument cluster and infotainment. Similar to the updated Harrier, the new Tata electric SUV will have a 4-spoke illuminated steering wheel. Features such as a 360 degree camera, connected car tech and ventilated seats will also be on offer.

Tata Harrier EV has been confirmed to come with a dual-motor AWD (all-wheel drive) setup along with the vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities. The electric SUV is likely to feature a battery capacity of around 60kWh and promise a range of around 400km-500km. The Harrier EV will share a strong resemblance with its ICE counterpart, but carry a few EV-specific design elements. Upfront, there will be a new blanked-off grille, revised bumper, blackened housing for headlamp clusters, redesigned blanked-off panel on the centre air intake and new angular creases. The EV will also get a newly-designed taillamp assembly with new LED light bar, tweaked rear bumper with new angular indents and smooth body cladding finish.

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV

Mahindra & Mahindra will expand its electric product portfolio with the launch of the XUV 3XO EV by June 2024. Here, it will be put up against the Tata Nexon.ev that’s currently ruling the EV segment in India. Its design and styling will be largely similar to its ICE version. It’s expected to come with a new two-part grille with a larger central air intake, newly-designed headlamps, new alloy wheels, new drop-down LED DRLs, C-shaped taillamps and a full-width LED light bar.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV might come with the segment-first dual zone climate control and panoramic sunroof similar to its ICE version. It will also get a new Adrenox Connect app that could offer remote functions like door lock/unlock, infotainment system, diagnostic tools, etc. The new Mahindra electric SUV is expected to be offered with a 35kWh battery pack.

Maruti Suzuki eVX

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric offering will arrive in early 2025. The EV will be based on Toyota’s 27PL skateboard platform that will also underpin multiple mass-market EVs in future. Measuring around 4.3 meters in length, the electric SUV is reported to come with a 60kWh battery pack and an electric motor. Its e-range will be around 500km. The eVX will get AWD setup.

On the feature front, it might offer a dual screen setup, a two spoke steering wheel a floating centre console with a rotary dial, a 360 degree camera, a frameless rear view mirror and ADAS tech. Similar to its concept, the new Maruti EV will have an upright nose with large headlamps, a closed-off grille, a flat bonnet and C-pillar mounted door handles. The coupe SUV-like roofline, prominent squarish wheel arches and bold side creases will add more to its sporty looks. It will have a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
