LG Energy Battery Packs Will Power The Mahindra XUV400 & 4 Other Electric SUVs

The homegrown SUV maker, Mahindra had announced to launch 8 electric SUVs in the country by 2027. In the next few years, the company will introduce 5 new SUVs including the new XUV400 that’s an electric SUV based on the XUV300 platform. The SUV was first introduced as the eXUV300 at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Mahindra has confirmed that the new XUV400 electric SUV will make its India debut in September 2022. It is scheduled to be launched in the last quarter of this month, most probably in January 2023.

LG Energy Solution is a subsidiary of LG Chem, which is also a subsidiary of LG Corporation, South Korea. For people not in the know, Mahindra had signed a deal with LG Chem in 2018 to collaborate on the supply and technology of lithium-ion batteries based on nickel, cobalt and manganese chemistry.

The new Mahindra XUV400 will be the first electric model to feature battery packs sourced from LG Energy Solution. The company will also launch 4 more SUVs in the next few years. On August 15, Mahindra will showcase 3 brand new Born Electric SUVs. The company will showcase a compact electric SUV, a mid-sized EV and an all-new Coupe SUV. The Coupe SUV concept will preview the brand’s future Mahindra XUV900.

Mahindra Electric SUVs

The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 will be longer than its ICE counterpart. It is expected to measure around 4.2 meters in length and will have more boot space. However, the wheelbase of the XUV400 EV will be similar to the XUV300. The new SUV is also expected to come with (advanced driver assistance system). It will be designed on MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture) platform. The SUV is likely to come with 350V and 380V battery options.

Mahindra has also signed a partnership with Volkswagen. The company is also exploring the options of using Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform and components for its upcoming electric cars.
