Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV Debut In September – Nexon EV Rival

Mahindra & Mahindra plans to be bullish on the electric vehicle segment with a range of new models. The automaker will form a new EV subsidiary for its upcoming electric four-wheelers for the global market. Interestingly, the company has already received an investment of Rs 1,925 crores from the British International Investment (BII) – the UK’s development finance institution. Both firms “will work jointly to bring other like-minded investors in the EV company to match the funding requirement in a phased manner”. The sanctioned funds will mainly be used for developing and marketing a global electric SUV portfolio with advanced technologies. Mahindra’s new EV subsidiary will significantly leverage the wider product development, design organizations and manufacturing capabilities. Besides this, it will setup ecosystem of suppliers, dealers and financiers.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director – Auto & Farm Sectors, M&M said that the company plans to lead the electric SUV segment. It will reveal its comprehensive product, technology and platform strategy at the UK event that will be held on 15th August 2022. At the same event, the carmaker will unveil three new concepts of its upcoming electric SUVs. He also confirmed that the Mahindra Electric XUV400 will make its official debut in September 2022.

Mahindra XUV400, which will essentially be the electric iteration of the XUV300, will be longer than its ICE counterpart. Reports suggest that the electric model will measure 4.2 metres in length and have more boot space to offer. Though, its wheelbase will remain unchanged. The automaker might also equip the XUV400 electric SUV with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). It will be designed on MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture) platform.

While its official specifications are yet to be revealed, the Mahindra XUV400 is likely to come with 350V and 380V battery options. While the former will deliver range of around 200km, the latter will promise 375km. Some cosmetic changes will also be made to the SUV.
