Kia Motors will officially unveil the next-gen Sportage SUV in mid-April. The Kia Sportage 2022 has already been spotted testing several times in South Korea as well as in Europe. It is one of the most important launches for the Korean automaker in 2021.
Known as “NQ5”, the Kia Sportage 2022 will be the brand’s most important product in Europe. The SUV will come with most prominent and radical design changes. It will have sporty design with strong creases and shoulder line, and thinner rear pillar. A new rendering shows the possible design of the next-gen Sportage.
The SUV will have bold headlamps that integrated into the grille to form a single entity. At the back, the tail-lights will be interconnected and illuminated by LED. The new Sportage will be offered in two different variants. There will be a traditional wheelbase configuration similar to the existing model. The company will also introduce a long-wheelbase version for specific markets.
The next Sportage will share the 180bhp, 1.6L T-GDI engine and 136bhp, 1.6L turbocharged diesel engine from the Hyundai Tucson. The company will also introduced electrified variants – both 48-volt mild-hybrid and PHEV hybrid with plug-in system. The PHEV version will have 1.6L turbo engine paired to the 60bhp electric motor and a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion battery. The system offers a combined power output of 230bhp and 350Nm of torque. This engine will receive a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and all-wheel drive option.
