Kia Sonet subcompact SUV has started arriving at dealerships in Hyderabad ahead of its launch next month. Official bookings of the vehicle were commenced on 20th August and within 24 hours it received over 6,500 orders. The Sonet will be the third offering from the British carmaker in the country. It will take directly on the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser. While its official prices will be announced sometime next month, it’s estimated to cost between Rs 8 lakh – Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
Engine setup of the new Kia subcompact SUV will include three units – a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol (82bhp/115Nm), a 1,0L turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm) and a 1.5L diesel (99bhp/240Nm with lower manual variants and 113bhp/250Nm with higher automatic variants). While the 1.2L gasoline motor will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the turbo petrol mill can be had either with a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The oil burner will be offered with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options.
As per the leaked information, the Kia Sonet will be more fuel efficient than the Hyundai Venue. Its 1.2L and 1.0L turbo petrol variants will offer a mileage of 18.4kmpl and 18.2kmpl-18.3kmpl respectively. The diesel will promise 24.1kmpl with manual gearbox and 19kmpl with automatic transmission. One must note that the official mileage figures are yet to be announced by the carmaker. The British carmaker has confirmed that the upcoming Sonet compact SUV will offer several segment-first features including a large 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system. Features such as Bose 7-speaker audio system with sub woofer, UVO Connect suite with 57 features, ventilated front seats, remote engine start (for both manual and automatic variants), multi-drive and traction modes (for select automatic models), LED sound mood lights, wireless smartphone charger with cooling function will also be on-board.
