We have informed earlier that Kia Motors is working on the electric version of the Seltos SUV that will be first launched in the Chinese market. It was reported to enter into production in August 2020 at the Dongfeng Yueda Kia plant in the Jiangsu province. Though, its production and debut plan have been delayed due to disruption caused by the pandemic. Now, the South Korean carmaker confirms that the Kia Seltos electric SUV will have its world premiere next year in China (possibly in April 2021).
The Kia Seltos electric might be offered with the Hyundai Kona EV sourced 64kWh battery pack with a 204bhp, electric motor or a 56.5kWh battery pack borrowed from the Kia K3 EV. It will deliver a range of around 450km on a single charge on the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) test cycle.
In terms of design and styling, the Kia Seltos electric will be slightly different from the regular model. A latest digital rendering previews a possible design of the upcoming Kia electric SUV. The model features closed upper and lower grilles at front, enhancing its aerodynamics. The upper grille has body colour panel with a Blue strip running on the top. The LED headlamps and DRL units are exactly similar to the ICE version. Though, its front bumper design has been revised to give it a different look. The newly-designed 17-inch alloy wheels add more to its aerodynamics. The Kia Seltos electric continue to feature the pronounced hood, dual-tone ORVMs, raked windshield and roof rails. Interior layout and features of the Seltos EV will also be similar to the regular model. Though, the Blue highlights are likely to continue inside the cabin as well.
