Kia India had revealed the Kia Carens 3-row MPV in the country on December 16, 2021. Interested buyers can pre-book the SUV online or at authorised Kia dealerships. It is scheduled to be based in the first quarter of 2022. Ahead of the launch, Kia has revealed the colour options on offer for the Carens.
The Kia Carens 3-row UV will be offered in 7 colour options – Imperial Blue, Intense Red, Moss Brown, Sparkling Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, Gravity Grey & Glacier White Pearl. Going by these colour options, it is expected that the Carens won’t be launched in any dual-tone colour options. However, dual-tone colour could be offered at a later stage.
It is based on the SP2 platform that underpins the Seltos. However, the platform has been modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase and body. It rides on segment-leading 2,780mm wheelbase, which is even 30mm more than the Toyota Innova Crysta. The Carens 3-row MPV measures 4,540mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,700mm in height, and has a ground clearance of 195mm.
It is likely to share the engine options with the Kia Seltos. The engine options will include a 115bhp/144Nm, 1.5L NA petrol, a 140bhp/250Nm, 1.4L turbocharged petro and a 115bhp/250Nm, 1.5L turbocharged diesel. Both automatic and manual gearbox options will be on offer.
Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 13 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, the new Kia Carens will rival the likes of the Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo and the entry-level variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta. In fact, it could also impact the sales of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus.
For safety and security, the new Carens will get 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system, all wheel disc brakes, hill start assist and downhill brake control. Feature list include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, 8-speaker Bose sound system, electric sunroof, automatic AC, ventilated front seats, digital instrument console, etc.
