Is Hyundai Group Working On Venue, Sonet Based Electric SUVs?

Hyundai recently announced its plan to invest Rs 4,000 crore to develop dedicated electric vehicles and ICE-derived platforms in the Indian market. The company aims to launch six all-new EVs across different segments and body styles by 2028. These upcoming EVs will be based on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) architecture that will underpin future Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models. The automaker has also confirmed that it will also bring in the mass-market EV designed on the existing ICE platform.

The upcoming Hyundai mass-market EV will be more affordable and offer range of around 350km. While the automaker hasn’t yet revealed its details, speculations are on rife that the model will be based on the Hyundai Venue. The new Hyundai small electric SUV will be positioned against the Tata Nexon EV that’s currently ruling the EV space in the country. It will be a Made-in-India product that’s slated to hit Indian roads sometime in 2024.

Kia Electric SUV

Before the mass-market EV, the South Korean automaker will introduce the updated Kona electric SUV in 2022 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in 2023. The latter will underpin the brand’s new E-GMP modular platform and it’s likely to arrive via CBU (completely built up) route. The Ioniq 5 will be offered with smaller and bigger battery capacity featuring 170bhp, 58kWh and 301bhp, 72.5kWh respectively.

Kia India will also foray into the EV segment with the launch of Kia EV6 in 2022. It will be followed by the Kia e-Niro and a Made-in-India electric SUV. The upcoming Kia small electric SUV could be based on the Kia Sonet and take on the Tata Nexon EV. The model will feature small battery packs and underpins a low-cost skateboard platform. Scheduled to launch in 2024, the Kia electric SUV is reported to deliver a range between 200km – 220km.

More details on the upcoming Hyundai and Kia electric cars will be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
