Kia Carens 6/7-seater MPV is ready to make world debut on December 16, 2021. Ahead of its official unveiling, fresh details of the model have begun emerging on the web. As per a latest media report, the Carnes will be offered with the 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine that can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a DCT automatic gearbox. The gasoline unit will be good for 140PS and 242Nm, thus making it more powerful and torqueier than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
The Ertiga comes with a 1.5L petrol engine with mild hybrid technology producing power worth 105PS and 13Nm. The MPV is available with the 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. The upcoming Kia Carens will also be made available with the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L diesel engines making power worth 115bhp.
While the naturally aspirated petrol motor will come with the 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT and CVT automatic gearboxes, the oil burner will have 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission options. Most of its design elements and features will be carried forward from the Kia Seltos. It’s reported to be the first vehicle in its segment to offer 6 C-type USB sockets and an electric button for accessing the third row seats. It might also be equipped with a 360 degree camera, wireless phone charging, multiple airbags, hill start assist, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, etc.
Talking about the pricing, the Kia Carens is expected to cost from Rs 15 lakh for the base model to Rs 20 lakh for the fully-loaded variant. If launched in this price range, the compact MPV will take on the Maruti Ertiga, Mahindra Marazzo and the upcoming Hyundai compact MPV (Stargazer). Its higher variants will challenge the entry-level variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta, which are priced from Rs 17.18 lakh.
