Hyundai Big EV Push; Plans To Launch 6 New Electric Cars By 2028

Korean automaker, Hyundai has announced its roadmap to drive the electric mobility revolution in India. The company plans to launch 6 new Battery Electric Vehicles in the Indian market by 2028. Adding to it, the company will also introduce its dedicated BEV platform – E-GMP in India. Hyundai will invest around Rs 4000 crore for R&D towards the expansion of 6 Electric Vehicle line-up till 2028.

This is the brand’s dedicated BEV platform for future electric vehicles. This platform comprises of vehicle chassis that includes the battery, motor and power electric system. This platform is versatile enough to accommodate different body styles and different size of batteries. Vehicles deeveloped on E-GMP will feature a flat floor, slim cockpit and a flexible & spacious cabin.

The E-GMP has been developed on 4 key pillars

1. Modularity – this platform is compatible with different body styles, and can feature a modularized battery system.

2. Reliability – It features a low center of gravity, and ULtra High Strength Steel and 8-point battery mounting, which results into highly reliable BEVs of the future.

3. Usability – With a flat floor and flexible seating layout as well as an innovative interior space that offers sliding console and sliding 2nd row seats, E-GMP will give new dimension of usability.

4. Performance – This platform can accommodate a large battery capacity of up to 77.4kWh. It also offers 2WD/4WD capabilities, improved handling and a top speed of up to 260kmph.

Hyundai will target multiple segments including Mass Market and Mass Market Premium segments in India. Hyundai will launch electric vehicles in different body styles including SUV body shape by 2028.

Hyundai has also announced to work towards the development of BEV infrastructure in India with strategic collaborations to drive a widespread adoption of BEVs. The company will work on developing home charging, public charging station, charging facility at dealerships and peace of mind with 24×7 road side assistance.
