The Indian EV (electric vehicle) market is evolving at a very fast pace. It is expected to take a significant turn in the coming years as several new electric models have been planned by manufacturers across segments. Along with a complete new range of EVs, some of the existing models will also be electrified in the near future. Specifically focusing on the SUV segment, three popular models are set to receive electric powertrains: Hyundai Creta, Tata’s Punch, and Harrier. Let’s take a close look at the key details of these upcoming electric SUVs.

The electric version of the Creta is currently in its initial testing phase, with the final version expected to arrive in 2025. The spotted test mule was based on the existing model of the SUV, although it is anticipated to come in a facelifted version or a new-generation avatar. According to reports, the Hyundai Creta electric might share its powertrain with the Kona EV, which features a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a permanent magnet synchronous motor. This setup delivers a claimed power of 136bhp and 395Nm of torque. The Kona EV offers an ARAI-certified range of 452km, and a similar range is expected from the Creta EV. More details here…

It is likely to come with a new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, a 360-degree camera, a rotary drive selector, and an electronic parking brake. There might also be Tata’s new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Punch EV could borrow its powertrain from the Tiago EV hatch, and it is expected to offer a range of around 300km.
