November 2021 sales was a mixed bag for automakers in the country. While Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai (India’s two major automakers) witnessed a sales decline of 19 and 24 percent respectively, Tata Motors continues its turnaround drive with sales growth of 38 percent. Car manufacturers such as Mahindra (8%), Toyota (53%), Volkswagen (123%), Skoda (108%) and Nisaan (160%) registered growth in November. A total of 2,45,62 units of passenger vehicles were sold last month against 2,86,235 units of the same month previous year. The auto industry witnessed a decline of 14.3 percent, which is significant. Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR, Swift, Alto and Vitara Brezza managed to hold top four spots in the list of India’s best-selling PVs.

With total sales of 10,760 units, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza outnumbered the Hyundai Creta that recorded sales of 10,300 units. The former is ready to enter into its second generation in early 2022. With the generation change, the subcompact SUV will drop the ‘Vitara’ prefix and it will be called Maruti Brezza. The SUV will come with improved styling, more feature-packed interior and frugal engine.
Tata Nexon managed to secure the third spot with sales of 9,831 units as opposed to 6,021 units of the same month last year. The automaker reported massive jump in EV sales in the month of November 2021. The Kia Seltos registered sales of 8,859 units against 9,205 units, accounting a marginal decline of 4%. The Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV and the newly-launched Tata Punch mini SUV stood at number fifth and sixth with total sales of 7,932 units and 6,110 units respectively.
With sales of 5,442 units, Mahindra’s Bolero was the seventh top-selling SUV in the country. The Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300 subcompact SUVs grabbed the eighth and ninth positions with sales of 4,719 units and 4,005 units respectively. Mahindra Scorpio recorded total sales of 3,370 units against 3,725 units of November 2020. The SUV will receive a generation change in early 2022.
