Yes that’s right! Hyundai India has discontinued the Santa Fe SUV in the country owing to poor sales. The company has removed the 7-seater from its official website. In fact, Hyundai’s post GST price list did not feature the SUV. Though, we are stilling waiting for the official word.
Despite being a really capable product, the Hyundai Santa Fe failed to appeal buyers. The SUV was launched in 2014 at the Auto Expo to take on Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The factor that didn’t work in the favour of the car was its hefty pricing. The Santa Fe registered sales of 14 units in July 2017, and it got worse in August 2017 as only a single unit was retailed. In the last 11 months (September 2016 to August 2017), the company sold just 174 units of the 7-seater.
Powering the SUV is a 2.2-litre CRDi turbo-diesel engine generating a peak power of 197bhp at 3,800rpm and 421Nm of peak torque between 1,800rpm and 2,500rpm. Transmission choices include – a 6-speed manual (standard) and an optional 6-speed automatic. The SUV offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 11kmpl (ARAI-certified). The Santa Fe has been designed on Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic’ design language, and looks quite bold and aggressive. With large dimensions and muscular built, the SUV has commanding road presence.
