Hyundai Registers 5 Genesis Electric Vehicles In India

It is reported that Hyundai’s luxury car division – Genesis will arrive in our market post 2020. Interestingly, the Korean automaker has filed trademarks for five Genesis electric cars in India. The models include eG80, eG90, eGV70, eGV80 and eGV90.

Going by the naming, it is expected that the Genesis eG80 and eG90 will be electric sedans. On the other hand, the eGV70, eGV80 and eGV90 are likely to be electric SUVs. For people not in the know, Genesis is working on a wide range of electric vehicles. The new electric vehicles will be based on the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform).

In fact, Hyundai will also develop the Ioniq range of electric cars on the E-GMP platform. Adding to it, Kia Motors will also use this platform to develop new range of electric vehicles. It is quite early to comment on Hyundai’s plan for the Genesis brand in India. It will be positioned as a flagship brand in our market.

Hyundai could introduce both conventional combustion engine powered Genesis models or all-electric Genesis range. Going by the latest development, it is expected that Hyundai will introduce the Genesis brand in India with all-electric range. It will compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Jaguar. In fact, Tesla is also gearing up to enter in our market in 2021.
