Mahindra eKUV100 Launch In Next Months; More Electric Cars Planned

Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that it will launch the eKUV100 mini SUV in the next three months. Speaking at the launch of the Treo Zor electric three-wheeler, Dr. Pawan Goenka has revealed that the company will focus on shared mobility with the upcoming Mahindra eKUV100 that made its public debut at this year’s Auto Expo. The electric mini SUV has been priced at Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom), thus making it India’s most affordable electric car.

Goenka further said that the eKUV100 will be preliminary aimed at fleet operators. Though, it will also be available for private buyers. He also confirmed that Mahindra has planned a couple new electric vehicles for the Indian market. The lineup will include the Atom electric quadricycle and eXUV300. While the former is likely to come around April 2021, the latter might hit roads by the end of 2021 or early 2022.

Mahindra eKUV100 Prices

Talking about Mahindra eKUV100, the electric mini SUV derives its power from a 40 kW electric that pushes out power worth 53bhp and 120Nm of peak torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a single-speed gearbox. The mini SUV has a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that will offer a range of 120km on a full charge. Mahindra will offer the vehicle with both standard and fast-charging options. While the charging time and details are yet to be revealed by the carmaker, the SUV might take around an hour to get charged up to 80% via DC fast charger. Visually, the Mahindra eKUV100 looks similar to the petrol version. Though, minor cosmetic changes have been made to the electric iteration such as a new grille, revised headlamps, newly-designed alloy wheels and updated taillamps. The electric mini SUV has Blue accents highlighting its electric nature. Interior layout and features will be exactly identical to its petrol counterpart. The electric KUV100 might get a larger touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and an updated instrument cluster.
