Hyundai NEXO FCEV Put On Display At Auto Expo 2023

The Hyundai Nexo fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) has been put on display at the 2023 Auto Expo. For people not in the know, Hyundai had also showcased the Nexo to public at the 2020 Auto Expo. In fact, Hyundai had also conducted the feasibility study for the fuel cell electric vehicles in India.

The Hyundai Nexo FCEV comes with SUV styling, featuring SUV-ish silhouette and the brand’s signature cascading grille. It comes with full LED lighting system, featuring a split headlamp setup with LED DRLs on top and triangular headlamp setup lower on the front bumper. Some of the design highlights will include a floating roof, slim D-pillar, integrated flush door handles, triangular shaped rear window and long and prominent rear spoiler. The new model gets integrated LED turn indicators and 5-spoke alloy wheels. In the international markets, the Hyundai Nexo FCEV is available in 5 colour options – Cocoon Silver, White Cream, Titanium Grey, Copper Metallic and Dusk Blue.

The new Hyundai NEXO dashboard is dominated by two LCD displays including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with navigation system and a 7-inch digital driver display. The bride-type centre console with heightened position gives it a futuristic look. The seats are made of vegan leather and textile piping, while the floor mats and headliners are made of eco-fibers made of cane sugar. The Nexo FCEV has a luggage capacity of 461-litres, which can be extended to 1,466-litres by folding the rear seats. It features Krell sound system with two tweeters, four door speakers, a centre speaker and sub-woofer. It also comes with power tailgate and a wide sunroof.

The Nexo FCEV is fitted with Hyundai’s advanced driver assistance system or ADAS. The ADAS features include blind-spot view monitor, lane following assist, highway driving assist, remoe smart parking assist, forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, high beam assist & static low beam assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision warning, etc.

The Hyundai NEXO is designed on the new vehicle architecture, which is claimed to have multiple benefits. The battery is placed to the trunk, while the fuel cell system layout is improved. It comes with a 95kW fuel cell powering an electric motor that offers a maximum power output of 161bhp and 395Nm of torque. It is claimed to achieve 0 to 100kmph acceleration in 9.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 179km/h. It offers a driving range of 666km (WLTP) or 756 km (NEDC or New European Driving Cycle).

The new vehicle platform integrates three identical tanks with a volume of 52.2 litres of hydrogen per tank. Hyundai claims that the Nexo takes only five minutes to refuel. According to the company, the NEXO FCEV will cold start even when the outside temperature drops to 30 degree Celsius below zero in 30 seconds.
