Hyundai Kona Electric SUV Sales Crosses 1 Lakh Mark Globally

The South Korean carmaker has announced that the Hyundai Kona electric SUV has crossed the 1 lakh global sales mark in 2 years of its arrival. Around three-quarters of its 1,03,719 cumulative sales were retailed outside its home market (South Korea). The company also says that it’s a significant contribution to its long-term strategies. Hyundai aims to sell 5.6 lakh battery electric vehicles along with the FCEV (fuel cell electric vehicle) models by 2025.

Talking about the Hyundai Kona, the electric SUV comes with a permanent magnet synchronous motor generating power worth 136hp and 395Nm of torque. It can do 0 to 100kmph in 9.7 seconds. The SUV has a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack offering a range of 452km on a single charge.

The battery pack can be juiced up to 100% in 57 minutes by using a 50kW DC fast charger and 6 hours 10 minutes via a standard AC power socket. Hyundai’s electric SUV is being offered with a standard 3 year/unlimited warranty along with an 8 year/1.6 lakh kilometer warranty for the battery. It comes in a choice of four solid colours – Blue, Black, White, Silver and dual-tone White with Black roof. The dual-tone exterior paint scheme costs an additional Rs 20,000.

One can change the vehicle’s charge setting, drive modes and get information related to the power consumption via the info display unit. It offers leather upholstery with front heated and ventilated front seats and 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. It also gets a powered sunroof, leather wrapped steering wheel, heated wing mirrors and an electric parking brake.
