Tata Gravitas 6-Seater Launch Likely To Be Delayed – Report

Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker has announced to launch 2 new cars – the Gravitas 6-seater SUV and the HBX micro SUV before the end of this financial year. The Gravitas is planned to be launched during festive season, before Diwali. However, a new media report claims that Tata Motors could further delay the launch of the Gravitas.

Many states have re-imposed lockdown in major cities due to rising coronavirus cases. Seeing the gruesome situation, automakers are uncertain about the launch of new products in the immediate future. Similarly, Tata Motors is also looking to push the launch of the Gravitas SUV to next year.

The report claims that the uncertainty around showroom openings and supply chain constraints in manufacturing will play a major role in delay of the Gravitas SUV. This suggests that the Gravitas and the HBX micro SUV could be launched in the first quarter of 2021. The new models were unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Tata Gravitas 6-seater will be the company’s second product to be based on the OMEGA ARC platform. It is basically the 6/7 seater version of the Harrier SUV. The SUV will be powered by a tried & tested 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of producing 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The SUV will have a ground clearance of 200mm. The SUV’s styling is similar to the Harrier, but it has received some changes to keep things fresh in the market. It has taller stance, bigger alloys and more upright rear profile. It gets revised tail-lamps and boot lid. The windshield is large and rear spoiler is more prominent than the Harrier. It gets stepped roof, upright tailgate with a roof spoiler, newly styled roof-rails and slightly tweaked rear profile.
