Hyundai India is ready to enter into the country’s growing segment- the compact SUV/Crossover. The company will launch the much-awaited ix25 compact SUV and i20 crossover this year. Both models have been spotted testing in Chennai, but models are completely disguised. It is expected that the compact SUV and crossover are ready to enter into the production lineup.
The Hyundai ix25 is undoubtedly the most anticipated model of this year. Set to rival Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano, the compact SUV will see heavy localization to offer an aggressive pricing. First unveiled at the 2014 Chengdu Motor Show, the ix25 is based on the company’s latest Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy that also offers on the Elite i20 and the Santa Fe. Going by the spyshot, the vehicle gets large five-spoke alloy wheels and roof rails. It is expected that the top-spec model will get LED DRLs with projectors, touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, multi-functional steering wheel, etc.
The Hyundai ix25 will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol engine is the 105bhp, 1.4-litre VTVT unit, the oil burner is the 1.4-litre U2 CRDi motor that is good for 89bhp. A six-speed manual gearbox will come as standard, while the automatic gearbox driving the power to front wheels will be offered as an optional.
The other model spotted was the Elite i20 based crossover. The beefed-up version of the i20 gets slightly raised height, plastic body cladding, new alloy wheels, roof rails, disc brakes, projector headlamps and newly styled grille and bumpers. It will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise- 90bhp, 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel and 82bhp, 1.2-litre VTVT petrol. A five-speed manual gearbox driving the power to front wheels will come as standard.
