Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV Unveiled In India; Bookings Open At Rs 1 Lakh

The Korean automaker, Hyundai has revealed the India-spec Ioniq 5 electric crossover at an event last night. Interested buyers can book the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover online or at select authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 will come via a CKD route and will be assembled in India. The EV is based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which also underpins the Kia EV6. The EV6 is launched as a completely built-up unit and is priced at Rs 59.96 lakh. It is expected that the new Ioniq 5 EV will cost under Rs 50 lakh.

In terms of proportions, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is 4,635mm in length, 1,890mm in width and 1,625mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000mm. The Ioniq 5 is a crossover, featuring a futuristic design with angular surfaces on the exterior. It features dual LED headlamps with pixelated LED tail-lights, flush-fitting door handles and dual-tone alloy wheels.

The new Ioniq 5 comes with a minimalistic interior with a dual floating screen and a 2-spoke steering wheel. It will be equipped with a 12.3-inch infotainment system & driver displays, a 360 degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, V2L (Vehicle 2 Load) features and others. The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV will come with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) with features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep & departure aid and blind spot monitoring system.

The new electric SUV is offered with two battery pack options – a 72.6kWh and a 58kWh – offering a range of around 384km and 481km respectively. The India-spec model will be offered with RWD and AWD drivetrain options. The top-spec variant comes with a dual-motor, AWD setup that offers 306bhp of power and 605Nm of torque. It is claimed to achieve 0 to 100kmph acceleration in 5.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 185kmph.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV with 58kWh battery pack comes with a single motor that pushes power worth 169bhp. This variant is only offered with RWD system. The electric crossover supports 800V battery technology that offers ultra rapid charging. The battery pack is compatible to the 220kW DC charging that charges it from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.
