Hyundai AX1 (Tata HBX Rival) – What We Know So Far

A few days ago, we have seen new spy pictures of the upcoming Hyundai AX1 mini SUV revealing some interesting design details. While its production ready model is slated to hit Indian roads by mid 2023, a latest digital rendering previews what it might look like. Design and styling of the AX1 seems inspired by the Hyundai Venue, especially the front fascia. The mini SUV carries a large radiator grille merging into LED DRLs (daytime running lights) and low-mounted headlamps featuring angular design.

The simply designed bumper has a skid plate at the lower end. The squarish, pronounced wheel arches have black cladding that runs across the vehicle’s length. It features 6-slat petal shaped alloy wheels painted in black shade. Similar to the spied prototype, the rendered Hyundai AX1 mini SUV has tall-boy stance. What’s interesting here are the rear door mounted handles as we have seen in the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Tata Altroz.

Interior details of the upcoming Hyundai mini SUV are still under the wraps. Though, the fresh spy pictures reveal that the model will get light shade (beige) seat upholstery. We expect it to come with a floating infotainment system with BlueLink connected technology and several other goodies.

Based on K1 platform that also underpins the Grand i10 Nios, the Hyundai AX1 mini SUV might be offered with three engines – 83 PS, 1.2L Kappa petrol, 100PS 1.0L turbo-petrol and 75PS 1.2L diesel. The same engine setup is offered on the Grand i10 Nios hatchback. The new mini SUV could be made available with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes. Prices of the upcoming new Hyundai mini SUV are likely to start from Rs 5 Lakh (ex-showroom). In the company’s product lineup, it will be placed below the Hyundai Venue and take on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Tata HBX.
