Hyundai Accent (Verna) Gets 0 Star Safety Rating In Latin NCAP

After the Hyundai Tucson, the Hyundai Accent (Hyundai Verna in India) has received a poor 0 star rating in the latest Latin NCAP’s crash tests. The mid-size sedan scored 9.23 percent in adult occupant protection, 12.68 percent in child occupant protection, 53.11 percent in pedestrian and vulnerable road user protection and 6.98 percent for safety assist. However, its bodyshell and footwell area have been rated as stable.

In the frontal impact test, the model provided good protection to the driver and passenger’s head and neck. While the tested model showed adequate protection for driver’s chest, it was poor for the passenger’s chest. The legs protection was rated from marginal to good. In the side impact test, the Hyundai Accent (Hyundai Verna) offered marginal head and chest protection. The child seat provided good protection. One must note that the test model was Made-in-India and it was equipped with safety fitments such as a driver-side airbag, load limiter for the driver and seat belt pretensioners.

At present, the Hyundai Verna is available within the price range of Rs 9.28 lakh – Rs 15.2 lakh. While its petrol variants cost between Rs 9.28 lakh – Rs 14.23 lakh, the diesel models are priced from Rs 10.88 lakh to Rs 15.32 lakh. The model lineup includes five automatic variants – SX iVT petrol, SX diesel, SX iVT (O) petrol, SX (O) turbo petrol and SX (O) diesel – priced at Rs 12.28 lakh, Rs 13.42 lakh, Rs 14.18 lakh, Rs 14.23 lakh and Rs 15.23 lakh respectively. Hyundai’s sedan has been offered with 3 engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. The NA petrol motor, with 6-speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes, delivers a claimed power of 113bhp and 145Nm of torque.  

The 1.0L turbo petrol unit makes power worth 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. It comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The diesel engine has been tuned for generating a maximum power of 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit.
