A new media report claims that Ford Motor Company is planning to introduce a range of high-performance vehicles in the Indian market. Ford will also launch new C- and B-Segment SUVs with Mahindra by 2022-23. The JV will ensure wider and more frequent offerings from Ford India.
The report claims that Ford has created a separate workstream to launch high performance vehicles such as the Mustang BS-VI in 2021. The company is also exploring its global high-end cars including the Mustang EV, a Ranger Raptor pick-up truck, the Bronco 4×4 SUV and the Focus RS performance hatchback for the Indian market.
The company wants to reinforce the Ford DNA among prospective Indian buyers, who can now choose from over a dozen brands. Ford will also introduce the updated version of its existing cars – the Figo, Fresstyle, Aspire and the EcoSport with new engine and gearbox options.
We believe that the new Bronco SUV could be introduced in our market, as it directly rivals the Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler is currently the best-selling off-roader globally in its segment. The Bronco family comprises of 4-door, 2-door and Bronco Sport. The 2021 Ford Bronco is powered by a 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 engine that is capable of producing 310bhp of power and 542Nm of torque. The SUV also gets a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine producing 270bhp of power and 420Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 7-speed manual gearbox and a 10-speed automatic.
The Ranger Raptor is a lifestyle pick-up truck, which is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of producing 210bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all-4 wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 10.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 169kmph.
