Baojun Yep Plus Range

SGMW, the joint venture involving SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), General Motors, and Wuling, has unveiled images of the upcoming Baojun Yep Plus SUV. This model is set to hit the Chinese market in March 2024, with a subsequent release of the three-door Yep SUV. The Yep Plus is a 5-door electric crossover, sharing its platform with the MG Comet EV, currently available in India.

Although specific battery details have not been disclosed, Baojun reveals that the Yep Plus SUV offers a range of 401km (CLTC) and reaches a top speed of 150km/h. Its three-door counterpart, the Yep, delivers a range of 303km on the CLTC cycle, featuring a single electric motor with 75kW (101bhp) placed in the rear axle.

The design of the Baojun Yep Plus SUV follows the aesthetic language of its three-door version. The front end displays blocky headlamps, a robust black bumper, and a closed-off grille. The showcased model features a dual-tone paint scheme in blue with a white roof, blackened pillars, five-spoke gray rims, square wheel arches with small-profile tyres, short overhangs, and a swing-out trunk door.

With an elongated wheelbase of 2560mm, the Yep Plus surpasses the three-door Yep in dimensions. The overall length, width, and height of the Yep Plus measure 2996mm, 1760mm, and 1726mm, respectively. Compared to its three-door counterpart, the five-door version is 600mm longer, 75mm wider, and 5mm taller.

In the Chinese market, the Baojun Yep Plus will compete against the BYD Yuan Up, BYD Dolphin, and other electric vehicles. While specific pricing details are yet to be announced, it is estimated to be around 150,000 yuan (approximately 21,100 USD).

Looking ahead to India, MG plans to introduce a re-badged version of the Baojun Yep electric SUV by 2025. The model is expected to be heavily localized to ensure competitive pricing and will share its platform with the MG Comet EV. Described as a boxy, 3-door EV, it measures 3381mm in length, 1685mm in width, and 1721mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2110mm.
