Ola Electric introduced its first electric scooters in India on 15th August 2021. Called the Ola S1 and S1 Pro, the models have been priced at Rs 99,999 and Rs 1,29,999 respectively. One must note that these prices are ex-showroom and includes FAME II subsidy, but excludes State subsidy. In order to tap the mass market, the company is planning to bring in the more affordable Ola electric scooter and bike.
While the company hasn’t yet revealed details and launch timeline of the products, the affordable e-scooter is expected to arrive by the end of 2022. The new affordable Ola electric scooter could be based on the S1 and S1 Pro. Though, it might miss out on some fancy features. Its battery capacity and range might also be different from its premium siblings. The upcoming Ola electric bike will be positioned against the Revolt RV400.
Talking about the Ola S1 and S1 Pro, the models come with the 2.98kWh and 3.97kWh battery delivering range of 121km and 181km respectively. The scooters have a ‘Hyperdrive motor’ that delivers a peak power of 8.5kW. While the S1 offers two riding modes – Normal and Sports, the S1 Pro comes with an additional Hyper mode. The new Ola electric scooter has a single-sided suspension and disc brakes. It runs on 110/70-R12 MRF front and rear tyres. In terms of features, it offers a large TFT display, a reserve mode, proximity unlock, cruise control, hill hold function and voice assistant functions.
Ola Electric also aims to foray into the electric four-wheeler segment in the next couple of years. Official details of the upcoming Ola electric car are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to be based on an indigenous EV four-wheeler platform and have compact body built with futuristic design elements. Ola’s Bengaluru based global design centre, which is reported to be under development, will serve as production hub for the upcoming Ola electric car.
