Mahindra & Mahindra has some really big plans for the Indian EV market. The automaker has revealed that it will launch 16 new electric vehicles (including 8 e-SUVs and 8 light commercial vehicles) by 2027. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director at M& M, said that the company aims to expand its SUV portfolio with 13 new models out of which 8 will be electric. All these vehicles will arrive by 2027 and at least 20 percent of the UV volume is expected to come from electric cars.
Some of the upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs will be derived from the existing models, while a few of them will be all-new. The home-grown automaker has already announced its plan to invest Rs 3,000 crore in EV segment. In fact, the company announced that it’s open to bring in investors on board for its EV business.
Talking about the upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs, the company is currently testing the eKUV100 that’s reported to launch in early 2022. The mini electric SUV is expected to be priced under Rs 9 lakh, thus making it the most affordable electric car in the country. Similar to its concept, the production-ready version might feature the 40kW electric motor (53bhp/120Nm) and a 15.9kWh lithium-ion battery. The electric range of the Mahindra eKUV100 will be around 150kmph.
Mahindra eXUV300 is likely to be the second electric launch from the home-grown automaker. The model was unveiled in its near-production avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be Mahindra’s first EV to be designed on MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture). The compact electric SUV will come with the 350V and 380V powertrains and two battery packs. While its standard version is reported to deliver a range of around 200km, the long-range version will offer 375km. The eXUV300 will take directly on India’s top-selling electric car – Tata Nexon EV.
