In order to capitalize on the growing demand for SUVs, multiple automakers will be launching SUVs in 2021 in the Indian market. These SUVs will be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, and will be positioned against the popular mid-sized SUVs such as Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and others. Here is a list of 7 upcoming new mid-sized SUVs that will be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh –
Skoda Vision IN
Skoda has officially announced to launch the production version of the Vision IN concept in the first half of 2021. The new model is rumoured to be called the Kosmiq. It will be designed and developed on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Rapid sedan. The new model will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. It will be offered with two engine options – a 148bhp, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a 110bhp, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol. Transmission options will include a 7-speed DSG with 1.5L unit, and a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT with 1.0L engine.
Expected Price – Rs 10 lakh – Rs 16 lakh
Hyundai Alcazar
The 7-seater Hyundai Creta is rumoured to be called the Alcazar in the country. The SUV has already been spotted testing in South Korea. If reports are to be believed, the 7-seater Creta will be launched in our market in the second half of 2021. The new model will ride on 20mm longer wheelbase and the length of the SUV will be raised by 30mm. It will be offered with 6- and 7-seat options. The new model will be offered with two engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5L diesel and a 138bhp, 1.4L turbocharged petrol.

Volkswagen Taigun
Similar to the Vision IN, Volkswagen will also introduce the production version of the Taigun mid-sized SUV in India by mid-2021. The SUV was first unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be based on the VW Group’s MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Vento. Not just platform, the new Taigun will also share the engine options with the Vision IN SUV. The SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 148bhp, 1.5L petrol and a 110bhp, 1.0L petrol.

Mahindra XUV500
The long-awaited new-gen Mahindra XUV500 will finally go on sale in the Indian market in the first half of 2021, most probably in March-April. The new model will be based on the new FWD monocoque platform, which will also underpin the Ford C-SUV. It will be the first model in its category to offer ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). The new model will also receive Mercedes-inspired interior featuring a single-piece wide display that accommodates touchscreen infotainment system as well as instrument console. The SUV will be offered with 2 new engine options – a 2.0L turbocharged petrol and a 2.2L turbocharged diesel.

Mahindra Scorpio
The homegrown UV maker is also testing the next-gen Scorpio, which is scheduled to be launched in mid-2021. The new model will be based on the modified version of the existing ZEN3 platform, which also underpins the new Thar. The new model will grow in size, which translates into more cabin space. The new model will also receive a new 2.0L petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel engines.
Expected Price – Rs 11 lakh – Rs 17 lakh
Tata Gravitas
The new Tata Gravitas and the Hornbill micro SUV are now scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2021, that’s January-March. The Gravitas is basically the 7-seater version of the Harrier SUV, which will rival the MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500. To be offered with 6- and 7-seat options, the Gravitas will be the second Tata product to be based on the new OMEGA platform. n terms of proportions, the Gravitas is 4,661mm long, 1,894mm wide and 1,786mm tall. This makes it 63mm longer, 72mm wider and 80mm taller than the Harrier. The wheelbase of the new Tata 7-seater SUV is exactly similar to the Harrier – i.e. 2741mm. It will be powered by a BSVI compliant 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that also powers the Harrier. This engine produces 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

MG ZS Petrol
MG Motors will launch the petrol derivative of the ZS mid-sized SUV in the country in early 2021. The company had showcased the ZS petrol at the 2020 Auto Expo. The 2021 MG ZS facelift is available with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that is capable of producing 106bhp of power and 150Nm of torque. This model will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks.
