The 5-door version of the new Suzuki Jimny off-road SUV was recently caught testing in Europe. The spotted test mule was heavily camouflaged covering its design details. Though, one can recognize it with its signature boxy proportions. Features such as rear doors with door handles, extra windows at the back and an extended wheelbase confirm that it’s the 5-door version. While the prototype was missing out on the tailgate mounted spare wheel, the final production version will feature it. The 5-door Jimny is reported to sit on a 2550mm long wheelbase and measure 3850mm in length. Its overall width and height will be similar to its 3-door sibling. In order to create more legroom for the rear seat occupants, its ladder-frame architecture will be stretched. It will also result in extra boot space.
The interior spy images reveal that the new 5-door Jimny will have a new, bigger touchscreen infotainment system that appears similar to the new Brezza. Its instrument cluster seems to be carried over from the 3-door version. Maruti Suzuki is reported to bring in the 5-door Jimny sometime next year. Though, the company is currently finalizing its launch timeline, specifications and pricing.
In India, the Maruti Jimny is likely to be offered with the Brezza’s 1.5L K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The setup makes a top power of 103bhp and a maximum torque of 137Nm. Transmission options might include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The new Brezza with the updated petrol motor delivers a claimed mileage of 20.15kmpl with manual gearbox and 19.80kmpl with automatic transmission.
The new Maruti Jimny 5-door is likely to debut towards the end of this year or early next year. It could be showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo that’s slated to happen in the second week of January.
