The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny and 5-door Mahindra Thar SUVs have been planned for the Indian market. While the automakers remain tight lipped about the upcoming models, both SUVs are reported to hit showrooms sometime next year. In fact, Force Motors will also introduce the 5-door version of the Gurkha that will arrive in the coming months.
Here’re key details of the upcoming 5-door Maruti Jimny and 5-door Mahindra Thar.
5-Door Maruti Jimny
The Maruti Jimny 5-door is surely one of the much-awaited car launches of the next year. Based on the Jimny Sierra, which was showcased at the 2022 Auto Expo, the 5-door Jimny will be 3,850mm long, 1,645mm wide and 1,730mm tall. Its wheelbase will stand at 2,550mm, which is 300mm longer than its 3-door version. For power, the SUV will use the 1.5L K15B petrol engine delivering power close to 102bhp. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. The company believes that the Jimny will help building the brand image and satisfy aspirations of several customers.
5-Door Mahindra Thar
The 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar will target buyers who need extra space in the rear seat and boot along with the rugged SUV appeal and capabilities. Compared to the standard model, it will be longer and have longer wheelbase. Under the hood, the SUV is likely to employ the same 2.2L mHawk diesel (132bhp/320Nm) and 2.0L mStallion petrol (152bhp/320Nm) engines with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. If reports are to be believed, the automaker might update its suspension setup to improve its overall drivability. Its steering unit will also be lighter than the regular Thar. Interestingly, it will remain to see if the 5-door Mahindra Thar will come with hard and soft top options.
