The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is all set to make its global debut at the Delhi Auto Expo that will begin on 11th January in Greater Noida. Alongside, the Indo-Japanese carmaker will unveil the all-new Maruti Baleno Cross. According to a fresh media report, the Baleno Cross compact SUV will go on sale by April and the 5-door Maruti Jimny will hit roads by August 2023. Here, the new Jimny will be introduced as a lifestyle off-road SUV to appeal a wider customer base. It will be positioned against the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
Under the hood, the new Maruti Jimny 5-door SUV is reported to employ the older K15B petrol engine instead of the 1.5L Dualjet K15C motor. The same powertrain does duty in its 3-door version that’s built in India for export markets. The old gasoline unit pushes out a peak power of 102bhp and 130Nm of torque. The motor could be boosted with the mild hybrid technology, thus making it more fuel-efficient and reduce its emission levels.
Transmission duties will be done by a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. Similar to the new Grand Vitara, the 5-door Jimny will have Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro AWD system, but it will have a low-ratio gear improving engine’s torque and limits speed. As per the off-road conditions, driver will be able to switch between 2H (two-wheel drive high) and 4H (four-wheel drive high) settings.
The overall length, width and height of the new 5-door Maruti Jimny will stand at 3850mm, 1645mm and 1730mm respectively. The off-road SUV will have a wheelbase of 2550mm. When compared to the Jimny Sierra that’s sold in select global markets, the Jimny’s 5-door version will be longer and have 300mm longer wheelbase. Features such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, etc. are likely to be on offer.
