The new BMW S 1000 RR

The new BMW S 1000 RR comes with a compact layout, featuring a higher windscreen, side winglets and partitioning of the lower triple clamp. The company has added M winglets, which generate aerodynamic downforce and thus additional load on front wheel. This reduced the bike’s tendency to do a wheelie, and increases cornering stability and faster lap times. The motorcycle has lighter and sportier upper and lower tail section, and has hump cover for the pillion seat, and a shorter, detachable license plate holder.

The all-new BMW S 1000 RR is powered by an advanced 999cc, 4-cylinder water/oil cooled engine with BMW ShiftCam Technology. This 999cc engine is capable of producing 210bhp at 13,750rpm, which is 3bhp more than the previous model. Torque remains the same at 113Nm, which is available at 11,000rpm. The engine has new intake geometry and revised intake funnels that results into increase in peak output figures. Power is transmitted to the wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. The race tuned anti-hopping clutch with self-reinforcement reduces engine braking and improves safety, especially during braking manoeuvres with simultaneous downshifts. Gear shift assistant Pro enables upshifting without clutch actuation.

The new BMW S 1000 R is offered with 4 modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race. The optional ‘Pro Modes’ offer Race Pro 1, Race Pro 2 and Race Pro 3 setting in addition. For race starts, riders can activate Launch Control by pressing the start button form more than 3 seconds during standstill. The motorcycle also gets Pit Lane Limited, Hill Start Control Pro and Dynamic Traction Control with Slide Control function. With new steering angle sensor, the rider can select two preset drift angles for the traction control system.

The chassis has received significant changes and now offers more lateral flex. The motorcycle has a longer wheelbase at 1,458mm, a more relaxed 23.6 degree rake angle and a lengthened trail, at 99mm. The motorcycle can be equipped with electronically controlled dynamic damping control to adjust damping to road, dynamic race and for race Pro 1-3. The motorcycle comes with M Brakes as standard. The upside-down fork with a slide tube diameter of 45mm offers a high degree of brake stability as well as a stable response.
