Mahindra & Mahindra plans to expand its SUV product portfolio with a range of new models in coming years. The new Mahindra Thar 5-door will be one of the upcoming new Mahindra SUVs that’s reported to arrive sometime in 2023. Recently, a heavily camouflaged test mule of the Thar was caught on camera, which is rumoured to be the LWB (long wheelbase) version of the compact SUV. The spotted prototype features bigger size steel wheels and beefier front bumper than the 3-door Thar. Here are a few renders that show the upcoming 5-door Thar in 6 bright colours.

Compared to the three-door version, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door appears longer with elongated rear section. That means, a few structural changes will be made to the model. It will have more cabin space for the rear seat occupants. In order to improve its ride quality, the automaker might update its suspension setup and equip it with lighter steering wheel. Most of its features and components will be carried forward from the 3-door Thar.

Besides platform, design elements and features, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will share its engines and gearboxes with its 3-door counterpart. The latter one comes with the 2.0L mStallion turbo petrol and 2.2L mHawk turbo diesel engines delivering 152bhp with 320Nm and 132bhp with 320Nm respectively. However, the automaker might tune both motors for generating higher power and torque outputs. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit. The SUV might come with the standard 4X4 drivetrain system.
