Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger vehicle maker, aims to tap the growing SUV segment in the next 12-18 months. In order to achieve the target, the company will introduce 4 new models including the new-generation Brezza, a mid-size SUV, Baleno Cross and Jimny off-road SUV. While the new Brezza will go on sale on 30th July, Maruti Suzuki’s Creta rival is reported to arrive in August or September, 2022.
The Indo-Japanese automaker is also working on a new Baleno-based crossover that will compete against the Tata Punch. The model might debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny (5-door version) is reported to be offered in 5 and 7-seater variants and it will hit Indian roads in mid 2022. With these 4 new SUVs, Maruti Suzuki aims to increase sales as much as quarter million units within a year and double its market share in SUV segment.
The carmaker has already revealed its SUV launch plans to its component suppliers and dealers and get ready to handle the demand and volumes. In this fiscal year, the Indo-Japanese targets to double its SUV production to around 3,00,000 units. In FY 2022, the company registered total SUV sales of 1,34,000 units.
Maruti Suzuki will also expand its CNG model lineup in the coming months. The plan outlines the Swift CNG, Baleno CNG, new Brezza CNG and 3 new CNG variants of the Ertiga MPV. The new 2022 Maruti Brezza will come with the updated 1.5L K15C Dualjet petrol engine that will be more fuel efficient than the existing motor. The same unit will be offered with the factory-fitted CNG kit. The subcompact model lineup will be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a new 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.
