3 Toyota Hybrid Cars Planned For India – 2 MPVs, 1 SUV

2023 Toyota Fortuner

Toyota Motor had revealed its plan to contribute in India’s green mobility segment and launch multiple hybrid vehicles in the next few years. The company’s Indian arm, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is conducting feasibility study for its upcoming CNG, electric, ethanol and green hydrogen-powered vehicles. It has already invested Rs 2,000 crore on technology and electrification for both domestic and export markets.

The company recently launched the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV with the mild and strong hybrid powertrains. The mild hybrid variants are available within the price range of Rs 10.48 lakh – Rs 17.19 lakh and the strong hybrid model costs from Rs 15.11 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh (all, ex-showroom). After the Hyryder, the Japanese automaker will bring in three new hybrid utility vehicles (UVs) including Innova HyCross, Fortuner Hybrid and a new C-MPV.

2023 Toyota Innova Hybrid

The Toyota Innova HyCross (aka Innova Zenix in Indonesia) will be the next big launch from the Japanese automaker in the country. If Indonesian media reports are to be believed, the Zenix will be made available with the 2.0L petrol and 2.0L hybrid powertrain. The latter setup will include a gasoline unit, an electric motor and a battery pack. These powertrains will be Made-in-India units. Interestingly, the Innova Zenix could be offered with Toyota’s ADAS system (Toyota Safety Sense – TSS) and an electric panoramic sunroof.

The new-generation Toyota Fortuner is reported to come with the 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine benefited with the mild hybrid technology and an integrated starter generator (ISG). Compared to the existing version, the new one will be high on mileage and features. It could be packed with the ADAS, vehicle stability control and electric power steering.

The Japanese automaker is also working on a C-segment MPV that’s reported to use the FWD platform. Here, it will be placed against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens. The new Toyota C-MPV might be offered with the hybrid powertrain sometime next year.
