It is no secret that Toyota is preparing the new gen Innova MPV, which will first go on sale in Indonesia. Rumoured to be called the new Toyota Innova Zenix, the new MPV is reportedly to be launched in Indonesia in November 2022. In fact, Toyota dealers have already started accepting pre-orders for the new Innova Zenix.
The India-spec model is reportedly to be called the new Innova HyCross and is expected to be launched in early next year. A new media report claims that the Innova Zenix for Indonesia will be fitted with Made-in-India engines.
Speaking to otodriver, a person close to the development, said, “Zenix is assembled in Indonesia, but the engine used will be imported intact from India.” The new MPV will also be produced in India at Toyota’s production facility in Bidadi.
The new Toyota Innova Zenix will not be based on the ladder frame chassis and won’t be offered with the diesel engine option. The Indonesian-spec model will come in 3 variants – G, V and Venturer. The new Innova will be produced at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia factory in Karawang, West Jawa.
The new Toyota Innova Zenix will be designed and developed on a new, monocoque platform with front wheel drive setup instead of RWD layout in the current ladder-frame based model. It is reportedly to have a 2860mm long wheelbase, which is 100mm longer than the current model. This will help in create more space inside the cabin.
The new report claims that the new Zenix will be offered with 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain. The hybrid version will comprise of a petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery pack. The company could use the THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II) that consists of a twin-motor setup for high ‘step-off’ torque and fuel efficiency.
The new model is also expected to come with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite, which is Toyota’s ADAS system. The ADAS features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, road sign assist and automatic high beams. It will also come with a factory-fitted electric panoramic sunroof.
