2022 Volvo XC40 Launch On 21st Sep – Mild Hybrid Tech, Key Updates

The new 2022 Volvo XC40 facelift is all set to hit Indian roads on 21st September 2022. The model will receive a new mild hybrid powertrain along with a few noticeable exterior and interior upgrades and new colour options. Under the hood, the new XC40 will feature a new 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The setup will deliver power worth 197bhp. Transmission duties will be performed by an 8-speed torque convertor automatic unit. It will offer FWD (front-wheel drive) system.

On the exterior, the new Volvo XC40 will carry revised front and rear bumpers and sharper headlamps. The SUV will also get new colour options. At present, it’s available in four paint jobs – Glacier Silver, Denim Blue, Fusion Red, Onyx Black, Crystal White Pearl and Pine Grey.

The new 2022 Volvo XC40 facelift is likely to come with a bunch of new goodies. Though, the official details are yet to be revealed. The updated model will continue to offer a 9.0-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, electrically-foldable rear-seat headrests, wireless mobile phone charging, heated front and rear seat, 18-inch alloy wheels and adaptive cruise control.

The standard safety kit of the SUV includes eight airbags, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, pilot assist, electronic stability programme, emergency braking, hill-descent control and traction control.  

Currently, the XC40 is available in a single T4 R-Design variant that costs Rs 44.43 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated model will continue to take on the newly-launched Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

In July 2022, the German automaker introduced the Volvo XC40 Recharge as its first electric SUV in India. Priced at Rs 55.90 lakh, the SUV uses a 78kWh battery pack with two electric motors (408bhp/660Nm). It delivers a range of 418km on the WLTP cycle. The electric iteration of the SUV is two-folds more powerful and heavier than its petrol counterparts.
