New Honda Electric Scooter Launch On Cards? To Get Swappable Batteries!

Honda, the Japanese two-wheeler maker, has confirmed that it will introduce 10 or more electric models globally by 2025. The lineup will include two commuter electric two-wheelers that will be exclusively launched across Asia, Japan and Europe. These two e-vehicles will hit roads between 2024 and 2025. The company’s electric product strategy was announced at a press conference in Japan by Kohei Takeuchi, Director, Executive Vice President and Representative Executive Officer and Yoshishige Nomura, Managing Officer.

The two-wheeler maker has also revealed that all upcoming Honda electric scooters and bikes will feature a power source and swappable batteries. While Honda hasn’t yet clearly revealed whether India will be part of its new electric strategy or not, it confirmed that there will be Honda flex-fuel two-wheelers. The company will roll out the E20 (20% ethanol) flex-fuel two-wheeler sometime in 2023, followed by E100 (100% ethanol) models in 2025.

In India, the Japanese two-wheeler maker will start its battery-sharing service for electric autorickshaws by the end of this year. Currently, the company is in talks with a partner company for standardisation of batteries. It has already established Honda Power Pack Energy India – a battery swapping service company in Bengaluru. Speculations are on rife that Honda and Yamaha might consider a partnership at the backend for battery management.

Rumour has it that Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) might bring in the electric version of its top-selling Activa scooter. It could be the first electric two-wheeler from the Japanese company in India. If it happens, the model will be positioned against the TVS iQube Electric, Ather 450X, Simple Energy One and Bounce Infinity E1. The Honda Activa electric will come with swappable batteries as it’s announced by the company. If reports are to be believed, the company might introduce the Honda PCX electric scooter sometime next year.

HMSI’s future electric plans are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
