Toyota Land Cruiser, the flagship SUV of the Japanese carmaker, is ready to enter into its new generation in coming months. According to leaked documents, the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser will make its debut by the end of this month (May). Its India launch might happen towards the end of this year or early next year. In the South African markets, the SUV will be made available in three trims – GX-R, GR-S and ZX. The GR Sport will be off-road focus trim designed by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division. It will come with the E-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) and front and rear differential locks.
The range-topping ZX trim will be equipped with a torque-sensing limited-slip differential. Both GX-R and ZX variants will have an independent and a four-link suspension at the front and rear axles respectively. While the entry-level variant GX will come with diesel engine only, the GR-S and ZX trims will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. Powering the diesel models will be a 3.3L V6 turbo diesel motor and petrol variants will get a 3.5L twin-turbo petrol unit. Transmission duties are likely to be done by a 10-speed automatic gearbox. A new 2.8L, 4-cylinder common rail diesel engine will be available in select global markets. The oil burner makes a top power of 200bhp and 500Nm of torque.
Features such as 18-inch wheels and tubular side steps are reserved for the sportier GR-S trim. The top-end ZX will be exclusively offered with 20-inch wheels, illuminated side steps and a powered tailgate with a kick-sensor. The SUV will also come with a 3D multi-terrain monitor, rear seat entertainment with dual 11.6-innch touchscreens, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, heads-up display, four-zone climate control, a 360 degree camera, premium leather upholstery and a rear camera with a rear washer.
