2022 Kia Niro Revealed – Bold Looks, 3 Powertrain Options

The all-new 2022 Kia Niro crossover has finally made its debut at the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show. The carmaker says that the new model “embodies Kia’s commitment to building a more sustainable future”. It has “eco-friendly materials, advanced technology and electric powertrains while it also fulfils the practical needs of customers”. The new Niro carries the brand’s evolved design language along with the up-market interior and three powertrain options.

Design and styling of the new 2022 Kia Niro is heavily inspired by the HabaNiro concept that was broke cover at the 2019 New York Motor Show. Painted in dual-tone paint scheme, the crossover features Kia’s signature ‘Tiger Face’ which is extended from the hood to the rugged fender below. It has ‘heartbeat’ LED DRLs (daytime running lights) along with strong shoulders, upright windows, sporty C-pillar, vertically positioned, boomerang-shaped taillamps.

The crossover comes with the slim and lightweight front seat designs with a coat hanger placed behind the headrests. It also gets ambient mood lighting and an electronic gearshift dial. As mentioned above, the new 2022 Kia Niro will be offered with three powertrains – Hybrid, Plug-in hybrid and pure electric. Unlike the new Kia electric cars, the crossover’s new model will not be based on the E-GP platform. It comes with the ‘Greenzone Drive Mode’ that automatically transfers the (P)HEV into EV drive mode to meet the demand for sustainable mobility solutions.

If reports are to be believed, the South Korean automaker might bring in the Kia e-Niro crossover in India sometime in 2023. The model will be assembled locally and is likely to share its powertrains with the Hyundai Kona EV.
