2022 Honda City Hybrid – Petrol + Electric Combo – Unveiled

Honda City Hybrid sedan has finally made its India debut and its official bookings have been commenced across the nation. The automaker has confirmed that the model will go on sale in May 2022. It’s reported to be offered in two variants – V and ZX, which are estimated to be priced between Rs 22 lakh – Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). In the mid-size sedan segment, the City takes on the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the more powerful 1.5L TSI petrol version of Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.

The sedan comes with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated Atkinson Cycle petrol engine paired to two electric motors. While the gasoline motor makes a claimed power of 98bhp with 127Nm, the electric motor delivers 109bhp with 253Nm from 0 rpm. One of its electric motor works as an integrated starter generator that improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. The other one works as a traction motor connected to the wheels. 2022 Honda City Hybrid

For performing transmission duties, the model has a single, fixed-gear ratio. There are three drive modes – Engine Drive (running only on petrol engine), EV Drive (running only on electric motors) and Hybrid Drive (running on a combination of both). It has Silent Drive in EV mode.

Honda City e:HEV Mileage

The City Hybrid will offer an impressive mileage of 26.5kmpl. It will be one of the most fuel efficient cars in the country. Just so you know, the sedan’s Thai and Malaysia-spec models deliver 27.8kmpl and 27.7kmpl respectively on NEDC (New European Driving Cycle).

The Honda City e:HEV ZX trim has been packed with Honda Sensing tech that includes ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). The ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist system (LKAS), road departure mitigation system (RDMS), collision mitigation braking system (CMBS) and auto high beam. It’s the first vehicle in its category to feature ADAS autonomous technology. The list of features also include a 7-inch colour TFT meter with hybrid/sensing graphics, walk away auto clock, remote engine start and one-touch electric sunroof. On the safety front, the City e:HEV offers electric parking brake, auto brake hold, lanewatch, all 4 wheel disc brakes and 6 airbags. With all aforementioned safety fitments, the automaker aims to achieve 5 star ASEAN NCAP rating for the new Honda City e:HEV.

In terms of design and styling, the City Hybrid looks similar to the Honda City RS that’s currently on sale in select global markets. The model has sporty black treatment on the front grille, ORVMs and rear spoiler. The black theme continues inside the cabin as well, while the contrast red highlights add more to its sporty appearance.

Dimensions

The City Hybrid measures 4549mm in length, 1748mm in width and 1489mm in height, which is exactly similar to the regular model. It has a wheelbase of 2600mm. The V and ZX trims carry gross weight of 1636kg and 1655kg respectively. Compared to the regular City, its Hybrid version is around 110kg heavier. With a 40-litre of fuel tank capacity, the sedan will provide range of around 1,000km.
