Volkswagen has introduced the most powerful Tiguan to date – the Tiguan R. The new Volkswagen Tiguan R is equipped with a powerful 315bhp engine, which offers 0-100kmph acceleration in just 4.9 seconds. Featuring a new all-wheel drive system, the new model is claimed to achieve a top speed of 250kmph.

Powering the SUV is the EA888 evo4, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 315bhp of power and a peak torque of 420Nm between 2,100 to 5,350rpm. Power is transferred to wheels by the new all-wheel-drive system – 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. Volkswagen has implemented a rear final drive with two multiplate clutches for the first time. This system does not just distribute the drive power between the front and rear axles, but also distributes it variably between the left and right rear wheels. The company claims that the new Tiguan R has improved handling agility during cornering.
In terms of styling, the Volkswagen Tiguan R comes with new R design bumpers with aerodynamic elements in high-gloss black, matte chromed ORVMs, high-gloss black rear diffuser, black wheel housing extensions and 20-inch Misano alloys.
Inside the cabin, the VW Tiguan R comes with premium sports seats with integrated head restraints, a customised digital cockpit with integrated lap timer along with R-specific decorative trim in Carbon Grey. The decorative trim elements are illuminated via the background lighting. Also illuminated: the R logo in the aluminium front sill panel mouldings. The pedals are made of stainless steel.
The company is also offering extended technical R equipment, which includes a powerful 18-inch brake system. The brake system includes blue brake calipers, a DCC chassis with adaptive shock absorbers, etc. The sporty mode can be activated using a blue R button on the new multi-functional sport steering wheel. It also has paddle shifters for manual control of the 7-speed DSG. As standard, it gets deactivatable ESC as well as a four-branch sports exhaust system.
As an optional, the SUV gets a titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic and 21-inch Estoril alloy wheels. The exterior of the Tiguan R can also be personalised with the Black Style design package; in this case, selected add-on parts are finished in black.
