2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Launch In Nov – Key Changes Explained

Volkswagen India recently entered into the mid-size SUV segment with the Taigun to challenge Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq. Now, the German carmaker is gearing up to launch the new 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift that’s reported to arrive in the month of November. Just so you know, the 5-seater Tiguan was discontinued with the implementation of the BS6 emission norms in April 2020. This time around, the SUV will drop the diesel engine and will be made available with petrol engine only. It will also receive minor design changes and feature upgrades.

For power, the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2021 uses the same 2.0L, 4-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the Tiguan Allspace. The motor has been tuned for generating power worth 190bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. All variants of the SUV come with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION AWD (all-wheel-drive) system. The 143bhp, 2.0L TDI diesel engine has been removed from the model lineup.

Interior layout and features of the new Tiguan are similar to its long wheelbase version – Allspace. Though, its conventional climate control buttons and knobs have been replaced with a touchscreen unit. On the feature front, the facelifted model offers an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, leather seats and six airbags.

Major design updates have been made at the front end. The new 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift features newly-designed LED matrix headlamps, revised bumper and grille. Save for the new 18-inch alloy wheels, the side profile looks similar to the outgoing model. What differentiate its rear section are the tweaked bumper, taillamps with new LED elements and slightly repositioned signature badge.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan 2021 will be assembled locally via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) units and is expected to be priced between Rs 26 lakh – Rs 29 lakh (ex-showroom).
