Tata Motors is planning to introduce a new DCT (dual-clutch transmission) automatic gearbox on its popular models including Altroz premium hatchback and Nexon subcompact SUV. Recently, the 2021 Tata Nexon was caught on camera with an RDE (Real Driving Emission setup) during its test rounds in Pune. Painted in dual-tone shade (Red and White), the spotted model is likely to be the new DCT automatic variant that will hit showrooms sometime next year.
Similar to the Altroz, the 2021 Tata Nexon DCT automatic will feature a Punch-sourced 7-speed DT-1 dual-clutch gearbox. The new unit is claimed to be more refined and efficient than the current AMTs (automated manual transmissions). In fact, it will be more affordable than the conventional DCT or torque converter gearboxes. Tata’s new gearbox has been designed especially for compact vehicles offering torque up to 200Nm.
At present, the Tata Nexon is available with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder Revotron turbo petrol and 1.5L, 4-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine options. While the former makes a top power of 119bhp with 170Nm, the latter is good for 109bhp and 260Nm of torque. Both motors come with a 6-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. The new DCT unit will be exclusively offered with petrol engine. Design and styling of the new DCT variant will be exactly similar to the regular manual model. In terms of pricing, the 2021 Tata Nexon DCT is likely to cost around Rs 1 lakh – Rs 1.50 lakh more premium than its manual counterparts. The existing petrol manual and automatic variants are available in the price range of Rs 6.99 lakh – Rs 11.34 lakh and Rs 8.44 lakh – Rs 12.70 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom.
