Mahindra eXUV300 Could Be First Made-in-India Electric SUV In Europe

Mahindra eXUV300, the electric version of the subcompact SUV, was first previewed at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. Its India launch is likely to happen by the end of 2021 or early 2022. Recently, the carmaker has confirmed a new, affordable electric SUV for the European market that’s ready to hit roads in 2021. According to a fresh media report, it will be the Mahindra XUV300 electric SUV offering a range of 300 kilometers on a full charge.

Prior to the electric iteration, Mahindra & Mahindra will introduce the regular petrol model of the XUV300 subcompact SUV in Europe. The carmaker aims to achieve high level of localization to price the vehicle competitively and minimize the possibility of supply chain interruption of the batteries, electronics and motor.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric SUV

Speaking to an online media publication, Mahesh Babu, Managing Director & CEO, Mahindra Electric, has revealed that the company expects to produce Lithium cell and every component of the Mahindra eXUV300 in India within a year of its launch. If it happens, the eXUV300 will become the first Made-in-India electric SUV to be imported to the European and other global markets. Here, the new Mahindra electric subcompact SUV will be placed against the Tata Nexon EV and is estimated to be priced around Rs 12 lakh – Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

Interestingly, the Mahindra XUV300 electric SUV will be the brand’s first model to be designed on the Made-in-India MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture) platform. Previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo, the new architecture allows achieving a low centre of gravity and creating maximum cabin space, thanks to its low-set lithium-ion battery pack into the floor.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric Launch

The Mahindra eXUV300 will be offered with two battery options – 40kWh (standard) and 60kWh (long-range). While the former will offer range around 300km, the latter one will deliver a range over 450km. That means, the new Mahindra electric compact SUV’s range will be higher than the Tata Nexon EV.
