Tata Harrier, the popular SUV from the home-grown carmaker, will soon receive a new 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine in the country. The model will receive a new 1.5L turbocharged motor boosted with direct-injection technology. It’s essentially the four-cylinder version of the Nexon’s 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol unit. The gasoline motor will be tuned for generating power worth 150bhp. Both manual and automatic transmissions are likely to be on offered. The same engine setup will power the upcoming new Tata Gravitas SUV.
Recently, the Tata Harrier petrol was spotted testing with emission testing equipment on the outskirts of Pune. The model is likely to be tested for ARAI for homologation ahead of its launch that’s might happen sometime next year. With the new petrol engine, the carmaker will have an option to introduce a petrol-hybrid powertrain on the Harrier model lineup at a later stage.
At present, the Harrier with diesel engine comes in the price range of Rs 13.84 lakh (for the entry-level XE variant) – Rs 20.30 lakh (for the XZA+ Dark Edition AT). Its arch rival – MG Hector diesel and petrol variants have been priced between Rs 13.99 lakh – Rs 18.08 lakh and Rs 12.83 lakh – Rs 17.75 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom. In terms of design and features, the Harrier’s petrol version will be exactly similar to its diesel model. Just so you know, the SUV received an update earlier this year. It gets BS6-compliant diesel engine with a Hyundai-sourced, 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The latter one is reserved for the mid-spec XMA, and higher XZA and XZA+ trims. The SUV also gained dual-tone, diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, auto dimming interior rear view mirror and 6-say adjustable powered driver’s seat.
